This is the hardest post to write, so far.
Yesterday morning at 4:30, Steve woke me up to tell me he thinks the end is very close. This morning, the nurse confirmed that he has many of the last stage symptoms. He's not afraid. He said he wants to be relieved, and he's ready to go. Only the Lord knows what the real timing is. I'm still hoping he has some more good days.
I feel like I should just be able to say, "OK. Let's stop this. I don't want to do this anymore."
He's somewhat agitated by noises and activity. He just wants the room quiet. I know a lot of people want to see him, but I'm having to turn everyone away right now.
Steve said to tell everyone thank you for all the encouraging emails, cards and comments. I do read them all to him, and he smiles.
Thanks for praying for us.
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fail, but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:29-31

Steve and Sheri,
Tommy and I continue to pray for you both, many times a day. Your Dad said that you got a hospital bed, so I'm hoping you can be more comfortable. He also sent the beautiful family pictures. You all looked fantastic! If you guys need anything at all, please let us know. We love you all very much.
Love,
Aunt Tami
Very inspiring to see the strength of your faith not waver in the toughest of times. Praying for your comfort and for your family. My heart goes out to all of you. Be encouraged that you have been a great witness to all that know you. I only wish that when my time comes to go home with the Lord, that I can be as strong and as faithful as what you have shown. Thank you for sharing your journey with us.

Dear Steve and Sheri,
I am praying for your peace of mind and heart;for comfort and rest in Him in these days.
We love you,
Bettye
Yesterday I went back to the beginning of this blog and read Steve's words which jumped out at me:
"We know that a life that is totally centered on God is one that will be used to bring Him glory, and there is no greater purpose in life than to bring God glory."
Steve and Sheri, your responses to this unspeakable trial have glorified God every step of the way. After I read an email, a blog post, or have a conversation with someone about this I walk away thinking of you (of course) but even more I come away from it pondering our GREAT GOD. You have kept it "totally centered on God" and thus are glorifying Him greatly. I have found myself thanking Him in advance for what He's going to do in this situation, as well as in my own life when the trials which were previously unimaginable to me actually happen. I've been thanking Him for the grace He's been pouring out upon you now, and praising Him ahead of time for the grace that I know He has apportioned to me for a time such at this, should He ordain it. I can see you living in His grace and appropriating it. Thank you.
I was thinking a few days ago how much I enjoyed the time we spent sitting by the river at Beaver's Bend just chatting a few months ago. You two are so precious to so many, and so faithful to the Lord. Please know we continue to lift you up in prayer throughout each day.
We love y'all. {{{hug}}}

We were so blessed the day we left for our first mission trip to Piedras Negras, that is when we met y'all. We did not know the positive impact you would have on our lives. Your love for Christ and your commitment to serve Him in everything you do was evident from the start. Steve, your smile is so contagious, and you sense of humor is unlike anyone we will ever know. Sherri, God has given you such a kind and compassionate heart, and you have chosen to use it exactly as He had intended. Thank you both for being the perfect picture of Christ. I love you both!
We love you both.
Praying, praying, praying, . . . you are in our thoughts continually.
Love,
Mike and Dollie

Sheri,
Please know that I'm praying for you and the boys as much as I'm praying for Steve. I can't even imagine going through what your family is going through. We all love Steve so much at KW. He is an amazing man of God and a great friend. He makes us all laugh and is always a spiritual inspiration. Let me know if there is anything we can do for you and the family. Give Steve our love!
